What is Acuneedling?

Acuneedling is the practice of needling Acu points on the body.

Acuneedling works on the ‘meridians’ or channels of the body, using fine needles, Acupressure or Moxa to stimulate points for particular issues you may be experiencing or to support the body in specific ways.

As an Acuneedling Midwife, Lauretta is qualified to support you within the scope of pregnancy, birth & postpartum, to help with pregnancy conditions or symptoms as well as preparation for birth and beyond.

Acuneedling can support you in pregnancy & postpartum.

In PREGNANCY

Acuneedling may help with common pregnancy symptoms, such as musculoskeletal discomfort, pelvic pain, nausea & vomiting and more.

BIRTH PREPARATION

Acuneedling MAY help ripen and prepare the cervix “Acupuncture showed some benefit in improving cervical maturity, however, more well designed trials are needed” (Acupuncture or Acupressure for indiction of labour - Smith, Armour & Dahlen, 2017).

As well as allowing you to relax before your birthing day.

I can also provide education around optimal maternal positioning and acupressure for labour and birth, or maybe just to listen as you prepare for the birth of your baby.

POSTPARTUM

Acuneedling can be used to provide a ‘mother warming’ using Moxibustion (within the first 3-10 days postbirth).

It may also be supportive for common breastfeeding issues in combination with your medical care team & Lactation Consultant. Babies and partners/support people are always welcome.

What to expect in your Acuneedling appointment

First I will get you to complete an intake form when you book in; the more detail the better.

When you arrive we will have a chat about what’s happening for you, how you’re feeling and what you’d like to work on.

Your session may involve some bodywork techniques, recommendations to do these at home, or Moxibustion. Or maybe a chat about your upcoming birth, acupressure points to use and any other resources that may be helpful for you or referral to another care provider if required.

I will ensure you’re as comfortable as possible with my cosy cushions. I start at your feet and work up, and once the needles are in you can drift off and relax for around 15-20 minutes.

My aim is to provide a space for you to just be, to feel nurtured and to have some continuity during your journey of motherhood and matrescence, whether it be your first baby or your fourth.

  • Support for managing nausea and vomiting during pregnancy with Acuneedling

    Struggling with nausea and/or vomiting? This 4-session package provides:

    • 1 Initial Acuneedling session

    • 3 follow-up sessions aimed at helping manage your symptoms.

    While everyone’s experience with Acuneedling is unique, it does tend to have an accumulative effect, starting with weekly appointments for 2-3 weeks treatments may offer support in easing symptoms, particularly in more severe cases.

    This package is designed to be accessible during a difficult time.
