The importance of birth preparation & how Calmbirth can help

Birth prep testimonial.png

This right here is exactly why I am passionate about birth education! I want every woman to experience a birth that leaves them feeling they can do anything, so that they can go into parenthood and the rest of their lives in the best way possible…

Unfortunately this doesn’t just happen by itself, and while it’s great to be flexible in your mindset we can’t just ‘see what happens’ and leave it to chance!⠀

You wouldn’t just turn up on the day to a marathon would you? (I personally wouldn’t turn up for a marathon at all but you get my drift 😉).⠀

You and your partner have to prepare and train for your labour and gain the knowledge so you know what to expect, what happens to your body and so you know your options.⠀

By attending Calmbirth classes and soaking up all the info you can, you put yourself in the best position to achieve this — just like the lovely Michelle and Richard who I had the pleasure to work with who have shared their kind words above. They overcame their fears, worked together and welcomed their third beautiful little girl in a positive and calm birth - superstars!!

If this is the first time you’ve come across Calmbirth, you might be wondering just what it is exactly…

Calmbirth is evidence-based and scientifically proven childbirth education, developed by Peter Jackson, an Australian midwife, and based on experts and knowledge from Midwifery, Obstetrics, Neuroscience, Psychology and Mind-Body Medicine.

Calmbirth aims to reduce fears and anxieties about birth through knowledge, practical and mindset tools as well as subconscious healing via the Calmbirth scripts (sometimes knowledge isn’t enough, and these help delve deeper into the subconscious mind just by listening to them).

During the classes you will learn all about the mind-body connection, the physiology of labour, the stages, what’s happening in each one and how to work with it, creating an optimal environment, hormones of labour, how the uterus works, physical tension and the very important role of the birth support person throughout. We teach you tools to work with your body (Mindset tools, Calmbreathing techniques, Visualisation, Acupressure, Massage, Optimal Positions) and all of your options for pain relief (natural and medications) so that you can be fully informed about all of these and make the best decision for you.

A really important part of the classes is ‘Preparation for other possibilities’ such as induction, assisted birth, caesareans and how to work with and use the techniques for each birth scenario, because although birth is unpredictable, you can still be prepared for the twists and turns your labour and birth path may take. We also cover informed consent and communication with caregivers. Other useful topics we discuss may include supporting the pelvic floor, foetal movements, perineal massage, ribozzo techniques and supporting you with your birth plan/map - our support as educators is ongoing, not just during the classes but in the lead up to your birth.

We also look at preparing for parenting, relationship changes, mental health, the first few weeks and months and how to plan for a positive postpartum or fourth trimester. The skills we teach are not just for birth, but skills for life!

If you’ve been thinking about attending a Calmbirth class, you can check out my group classes here. You can also see my other services, including private Calmbirth classes, over here.

Of course if you’d like to schedule a free 15 minute chat first to talk through your options and see what might be best for you, you have do that here.

Thank you again Michelle and Richard for the privilege of assisting you and the very kind words 😘

Much love -
