Birth Story - the birth of Darcy, with Sam & Chris
I can’t tell you how much my heart brims with joy when I receive these beautiful messages, sharing your birth stories, and that you’ve had an experience that feels positive! It is truly a privilege 💕
My goal in the work I do in education (or anything really!) is that I want you to feel safe, supported, respected and informed in your choices, and for both you and your partner/support person to feel excited and confident going into it.
Birth doesn’t have to be feared.
Even if you’ve birthed before, there is always benefit in investing in you and your preparation, it can make such a difference. I was lucky to have Sam & Chris in my May 2022 Birth Skills class (via zoom), and I’m just so happy that Sam was able to birth the way she hoped and that Chris was such a brilliant support for her. Sam was able to work with her induced labour, despite the extra layer of challenges this can bring.
With the OMP techniques I share in the class, the preparation starts in pregnancy to create alignment and then understanding and using movements in labour to create space, mobility and allow baby to move through the pelvis with more ease = smoother labour & birth. Thank you so much for sharing your birth story Sam and allowing me to share it on here 🙏🏼 what a team the three of you were & welcome to little Darcy.
Let me know if you’ve done one of my 1:1 sessions or Birth Skills classes and would like to share your story 😊 My next Birth Skills class in 23rd of July, then September & November. Find out more here.
Story by Sam:
The birth of Darcy
“I opted for an induction so had my waters broken and put on the drip that morning.
Given my previous bigger bub and shoulder dystocia birth I was very conscious of being more active in labour and following the OMP active birth skills we learnt in your class. My birth plan was for no pain relief drugs so I spent a lot of time in the shower, upright swaying or sitting on the ball, and when I had to rest once my contractions were more intense I laid on my side on the bed with a pillow between my legs.
My active labour was a little over an hour and when I felt extreme pressure below and the urge to push Ob did a quick check and was happy for me to listen to my body and push with the next contractions (I had no idea how dilated I was). First contraction and his head came out to his ears, and with a few more contractions his head was born and body slid right out after!
After our class I was so determined to not be on my back pushing, had hoped to be on all fours but I was a little shocked at how quickly it was time to push!
So I stayed on my left side and this is how he was born.
I honestly couldn’t believe how smooth this birth was, and am so grateful for your OMP class and education, as these skills were at the front of my mind leading into this birth. So thank you!! Oh and he was as expected 4.2kgs!
I also forgot to mention once I was on the bed and transitioning, my partner was using the acupressure point on my ankle as pain relief. It helped me shift my focus away from the pain of the contraction and allowed me to breathe through them focusing on something else! Worked wonders too!
